How a small decision can turn your life around...

Updated: Mar 3, 2023

You know that feeling when you're stuck in a rut, going through the motions day after day and nothing seems to be changing?

Yeah, we've all been there

But what if I told you that making one small decision could change all of that?

I'm not going to tell you to do something drastic like quitting your job or booking a one-way ticket to Bali (although, if that's what you're itching to do then by all means, go for it!).

I'm talking about something much simpler: taking control of your happiness.

I know, I know… It sounds cliche, but it's true – happiness is a choice. And once you make the decision to chase after it, your whole life will start to change.

Suddenly, things that seemed impossible will become possible. You'll find yourself taking risks, seizing new opportunities and chasing your dreams.

So if you're feeling stuck, remember that it's never too late to make a change. It all starts with a small decision to turn your life around, and who knows where you'll end up!

I'm going to share with you a story about how one small decision turned my life around and led me on an incredible journey.

I hope it inspires you to make some changes in your own life, big or small!

The day that changed my life - when I made the decision to leave my comfortable life in New Zealand, and move to the Land Down Under.

It all started when a friend asked me to join her in Australia, I was met with that gut wrenching feeling in my stomach…

Feelings of excitement, fear, and an equal measure of the "what if’s";

It felt like I was taking the biggest risk of my life; after all, I was a single mother, it wasn’t just me now!

I was packing up our comfortable life, leaving the only home my son had ever known, to go and live somewhere completely new - talk about daunting!

What if I made the wrong decision and it all failed spectacularly?

What if the grass isn’t greener on the other side of the Tasman? (NZs grass is definitely greener! Haha, it just lack the same opportunities in my opinion)

I didn’t allow time for too many doubts to creep in, so within two weeks all our bags were packed, the things we no longer needed were sold, keepsakes were sent to storage and I was off.

It was a true leap of faith; no guarantee that my risky endeavor would succeed.

But I was determined to make it work; if not for me, then for my son.

He deserved a chance at something better and I wasn’t going to let anything stand in our way. We were off on a new adventure and the possibilities seemed limitless!

Who knew what wonders would await us…?

When I arrived with just my suitcase, suddenly that trepidation and any doubts began turning into something else...excitement!

That fateful decision put my life on a whole new trajectory and I would never have imagined achieving the things I have since being here, it's been incredible!!

Now I’m not going to pretend things turned out perfectly and that I didn’t have ups and downs, but those things only helped strengthen me to become the person I am today.

Sometimes taking risks can be scary, but the rewards are often worth it in the end! And isn't that what life is all about? Embracing possibilities, seizing chances when they come!

How that one decision led to a chain of events that completely changed my life for the better...

Making the decision to move to Australia was a transformative experience for me, both personally and professionally. It wasn’t long after arriving that I met my late husband, beginning the most fulfilling period of my life thus far.

Together we turned our house into a home, filled with the laughter of five wonderful children and dreaming of exploring the world as a family.

Day trips to beaches and waterfalls, camping trips, down to Sydney exploring along the way, Perisher to see the snow, we even drove across Australia – from Brisbane to Perth, via the Nullarbor as well as the Great Central Road.

We were also blessed to travel to New Zealand and Fiji - making so many lasting memories and instilling in our children an appreciation of life's special moments before fate intervened and my husband sadly passed away.

While our lives were changed drastically, the one thing that has remained constant is our love for adventuring and discovering new places. So before the pandemic, we were able to explore Oahu, Hawaii, and more of this remarkable continent.

I'm so grateful for the person I've grown to become and all of the life-changing experiences that have molded me into who I am.

It's amazing how a single decision can lead to such profound change - that's why it's important to never be afraid of taking risks and embracing new opportunities!

Who knows what possibilities await us, if only we take the time to open ourselves up and explore them? Here's to the next exciting chapter!

Let's go! 🤗💪🏼 ✈️

Why sometimes it's worth taking a risk, even if it seems scary at first

Taking even a calculated risk can seem immensely frightening, and it is natural to feel anxious about potentially unfavorable/uncertain outcomes.

That said, it would be a disservice to yourself to forgo opportunities just because of scary daunting uncertainties.

Risks can create the potential for growth and learning, develop resilience, increase your confidence, lead you to find your dream job, or open doors to new opportunities.

There are countless stories of taking a leap of faith that ended up in positive stories: from entrepreneurs who gave up secure jobs with no guarantee of success to people who stepped out of their comfort zone and met that special someone.

Life is unpredictable but it can be rewarding too; so don't be too afraid to take a risk…sometimes they do pay off!

Don't let fear be a hindrance because you never know what could be waiting for you on the other side of that risk!

Good luck and happy exploring! 🙂🙂😊

How I've never looked back since making that decision all those years ago

Though at times there have been bumps in the road and we were not without our difficulties or hardships, pushing us out of our comfort zone! These struggles only made us stronger and more determined to reach our goals.

My destiny changed with a single decision all those years ago.

Taking a leap of faith that was both exhilarating and frightening, I never expected to be quite where I am today as a result.

But here I stand - 16 years later with ultimately no regrets over the road taken, about to leave Australia and leap into yet another epic adventure into the unknown, but this time with 5 children in tow.

I'm thankful for the opportunity to reflect on this defining moment in time.

With every challenge faced and each difficulty overcome, we've grown stronger together as a family - persistent and; bold with our ambitions!

Remember fear can be paralysing, so don't let it keep you from reaching your dreams; seize them without apology or hesitation.

What small decision could you make that could change your life for the better?

Making small changes can have a big impact on your life!

Think about something you have been wanting to do or a hobby that you have been wanting to try, and make the decision to pursue it. It could be anything from joining a club, learning to play an instrument, going for regular walks in the mornings, or cooking a new recipe every week.

Whatever small decision you make, it could end up making all the difference in your happiness and well-being. So if you are about serious change in your own life why not take the plunge now and make your world just that bit brighter?

There you have it, the story of how one decision changed my life for the better.

The best things in life come from stepping out of your comfort zone, having faith and taking action before doubt has a chance to creep in. I'm living proof of this, so if you feel ready for change, don't be afraid to take the first step - it could lead to the greatest reward!

Some people would say it's impossible, I like to see it as… “I'm possible.”

Good luck! 🤞🏼😁️
